奈良県五條市。吉野杉を扱う材木店の資材置場だった建物を全改装したケーキ店です。既存の木目調鋼板やビニールの庇、看板、配管類を撤去し、大小２つの切妻屋根が軒を並べたシンプルな外観に再生しました。小さい棟は将来的な利用が見据えて取外し可能なファブリックで窓を覆い、大きな看板として活用しています。大きな棟の内部はコンクリートブロック積みのカウンター、黒板塗装の壁面、アイアンの金物などを統一感を持って付加していくことで、既存内装の野暮ったさを抑え吉野杉の素材が持つ本来の魅力を生かすインテリアとしました。
Yoshino which is registered into world heritage site, is a one of the most important producing area of the Japanese cedar. From ancient times,the Yoshino cedar has been widely used in Japanese architecture. However, in recent years, the tradition is fading rapidly because of exhaustion of resources, development of new materials, the shortage of talented people, etc. Our client bought the vacant warehouse made of Yoshino ceder which was used to a storage of cedars. She planned to convert it into a pastry shop and a cafe. Our design is so simple as always. We removed all ornaments and artificial materials, regained the beautiful ceder framework , and designed a kitchen and sanitaly space functionally. Although budgets were few, the beauty of Yoshino cedar helped us.
